About Mel

Mel is a freelance writer and former executive dating coach turned dating consultant and entrepreneur. She started JALBC in early 2011 after a year-long national coaching gig to fill a void for what she considers "honest, well-intentioned matchmaking accessible to anyone who is serious about meeting someone special." Adding to the more traditional matchmaking services, Mel specializes in date coaching: helping individuals work through what they need to in order to rock their dating!

Mel has been described as "a cross between Darwin and The Millionaire Matchmaker" and her dating advice has been featured in Miss Pivot and in JDate.com's "Expert Advice" Blog where she blogs twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays, if you're wondering!)

Prior to launching herself into the world of love and matchmaking full time, Mel was a nerdy scientist and studied genetics at Florida Atlantic University and neuroscience at Loyola University of Chicago. She's less scientist now, but still nerd and strongly believes that although love isn't an exact science, some of that "science stuff" does apply. By bringing her analytical skillset and good intuition to her business, she takes a different approach to helping people find (or keep) love — an approach that takes into account basic science, social psychology and "the human element" (or je ne sais quoi) that often can't be measured.

When it comes to her coaching, it isn't therapy. Coffee is often involved (or stronger, adult beverages) and there's no couch involved — unless you want one!

About The Team

JALBC couldn't do what it does without our great team:

If you've ever attended one of our events, you've probably met Lindsey, or Cupid, if you've ever emailed in to the office. Lindsey does everything from answering emails and phone calls to making sure Mel shows up where she needs to be. She's a coach-in-training so you'll soon see her heading up the awesome workshops JALBC is known for. If you're wondering if this blue-eyed beauty is single, ask Mel cause the answer varies depending on the day.

Speaking of our events, you'll also find Nick there, our smooth talking, hipster-glasses wearing, fancy-pants dancing office assistant. Nick is the organization behind the messes Mel leaves at her desk and the guy showing you what forms to fill out at the events you attend.

But you could fit in all this too! JALBC is currently accepting applications for coaching and event interns and assistants. That means that if you think you've got game (boy or girl game) and the cool-headedness to teach it to clients, send us your info.
